MICHAEL S. MALONE: Exit Brain, Enter Computer

Already... computers are exhibiting characteristics far beyond anything in human imagination. The first 'petaflog' – i.e., a quadrillion operations per second – supercomputers were delivered earlier this year, and now designers are working on 'exaflop' – that's a quintillion, or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 operations per second – computers.

  1. To compute = to think?
    I don’t compute so.

  2. to think = technically binary electro-chemical computation on a finite number of factors, so, i compute that ‘thinking’ can be copied by synthetic mediums someday. maybe not currently, but people in the 1700′s most likely never imagined us traveling to the moon and beyond, or even electricity for that matter. exaflop is past the potential of the human mind in speed of numerical computation but not in complexity of abstract relative computations.

  3. once we combine with our technology, completely advance, and reach the singularity, we can synchronize all of our consciousnesses to create reality again. won’t that be fun?

  4. “to think = technically binary electro-chemical computation on a finite number of factors”

Sometimes when you try to sound smart, you end up sounding stupid.
